Did you know that Teddy Roosevelt said it was near-sacrilege to stamp “In God We Trust” on American coinage?

   What do you think about Teddy Roosevelt? Good man? Rough Rider? A Christian man?

   Teddy Roosevelt was all this and more: he was a man who understood religious teachings.

   In a letter to William Boldly of November 11th, 1907, Teddy Roosevelt wrote:

   "My own feeling in the matter is due to my very firm conviction
   that to put such a motto on coins...not only does no good but
   does positive harm, and is in effect irreverence, which comes
   dangerously close to sacrilege....”
